Here is how to make the horchata recipe at home:

- 6 cups water, divided
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
- 1 cup uncooked white rice
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
Instructions for Horchata Recipe
Step 1
Add 3 cups of water, almonds, cinnamon stick, and the rice, to a blender. Blend for 1-3 minutes until the mixture is smooth as possible.
Transfer the mixture to a large bowl, add the remaining water, cover and let the mixture sit and soak in the refrigerator for 8 hours or overnight.
Pour the mixture through a fine mesh strainer 2 to 4 times and into another pitcher, until the mix is no longer gritty and is as smooth as you can get it.
Add the sugar, vanilla extract, and milk, and stir until thoroughly combined. Taste and sweeten with more sugar if you prefer.
Serve the horchata over ice with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon and enjoy!
