Ingredients for Cider doughnut

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour, for dusting
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • ¼ cup butter, at room temperature
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • Maple Syrup Glaze:
  • 2 cups of oil for frying, or as needed.
  • 1 ¼ cup of confectioners' sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ⅓ cup pure maple syrup


Instructions for Apple Cider Donuts Recipe


Step 1

Boil 1 cup of apple cider in a small saucepan for 25 to 30 minutes, until reduced to 1/4 cup. cool.

Step 2

Beat the butter in a bowl with an electric mixer until creamy, about 1 to 2 minutes. Add 1 cup of white sugar and beat for 2 to 3 minutes until light and fluffy.

Step 3

Add the eggs to the butter mixture and beat until completely incorporated. Mix the reduced cider and buttermilk into the butter mixture.

Step 4

Mix together 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 3 1/2 cups flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg in a bowl. Add the flour mixture to the buttermilk mixture and stir well until the flour is just combined.

Step 5

Sprinkle flour on a piece of parchment or wax paper and transfer the dough. Turn the dough out onto a baking sheet and sprinkle with flour. Roll the dough to a 1/2-inch thickness, sprinkling more flour if needed. Place the dough on the baking sheet in the freezer for about 20 minutes to firm up a bit.

Step 6

Cut the cold dough using a donut cutter. Gather up any scraps of dough, roll them out, and cut them. Transfer the cut donuts to a second, lightly floured, baking sheet. donuts Then, refrigerate for 20 to 30 minutes.
